Akademos is a martial arts studio specializing in Olympic-style and traditional Tae Kwon Do, based in Athens, Greece.

I was tasked with designing Akademos’ brand identity, including the promotional flyer, outdoor and indoor signage, and social media profile layout.
The inspiration for the logotype symbol came instantly when I witnessed the studio’s owner performing a classic Tae Kwon Do kick. This powerful and dynamic movement captured the essence of martial arts, and I used it as the foundation for the design, incorporating energy and motion into the logo.
For the typography, I created a custom design that was bold, clear, and assertive. I wanted the typeface to evoke a sense of respect, confidence, and authenticity—qualities that reflect the discipline and tradition of Tae Kwon Do.

More about
Akademos or Academus name came from the Ancient Greek “Ακάδημος” who was an Attic hero in Greek mythology.
Akademia was the source of the word “Academy”. Also the expression “the Grove of Academe” refers to the sacred site of Akademos where the cult had once taken place in an olive grove sacred to Athena.
Tae Kwon Do / Taekwondo is about self improvement and defense, and although one should always seek constant improvement, it is also helpful to have a way to gauge you’re progress. This is where belts, and rank, comes into play.
